Hurricanes indeed cause much damage and most of the damage is caused by flooding and yet flood damage is generally not covered under most home owners policies and this means many people are completely left SOL and it throws them into financial ruin.

There was a case that went all the way to the Supreme Court because an Insurance Company would not pay for flood damage caused during a Hurricane, even though the Home Owners Insurance had a clause that it would pay for wind driven rain damage. The homeowners in the class action lawsuit said

&ampldquoWell a Hurricane is driven by wind and that is what caused the water to flood and therefore you have to fix our homes and you cannot get out of it!&amprdquo

The Supreme Court disagreed and sided with the Insurance Company and therefore they were NOT made to pay on the claim. You see, most homeowner&amprsquos policies do not include flood damages and some say really none of them do and no insurance companies cover homes for flood insurance.

Now there are State Plans or government plans you can participate in that cover flood damage, but this is not in all places of our nation. You need to protect your property with proper drainage.

What can you do to better protect your property from flooding when a large Hurricane or super precipitous Tropical Storm unloads many inches of rain during a short time period? Well there are many things your landscaper can help you with, but in reality, once the water gets that high, there is little if anything you can do. Please consider all this in 2006.
